Tis your one and only, yet somehow, favorite Simul Social Personality! I’m back with another issue of Simul Quarterly for your eyes to feast upon. Since our last newsworthy update, our fair kingdom has been relatively quiet and peaceful. Well…as peaceful as it can be with the fear of looming doom. I am sure there is nothing to panic about! I did hear through the grapevine that something had happened recently. Soooooo, our favorite tavern, Mary’s, was attacked a few weeks back. Apparently, the assailant had blown off the whole front of her beautiful establishment! I did hear someone even DIED. Who in the hell does that? At least there were some nice folks that helped her rebuild fairly quickly. But you know what’s strange? Though there were witnesses….no one spoke a name. Perhaps I will do some digging. On a lighter note! Two of Simul’s favorite holidays are coming up fast! First, Canto Mortuus. Every year, the battle for the most treats takes place. Alongside the opening of Soulstagne’s magical barrier, this holiday brings together families and friends in ways that can only happen on this special day. Be sure to make quick work of those calories, for the Festival of the Hunter’s Moon comes next. Our best and brightest adventurers will take to the wilds and procure enough meat for all of Simul to eat happily through the rest of the winter months. Library of Shit Updates Heading 2 BREAKING NEWS Calor 20th, 10,017 Hello citizens of Simul. I come to you today to report on developing news brought to you directly from our fair capital city. It was reported at 5:34 AM, constables were dispatched to the second level of Eleutheria near the intersection of Starwind and East where they quickly found a morbid scene. There have been a total of 47 fatalities and an unknown amount of injuries. According to witnesses and constable reports thus far, a grouping of fifteen robed figures descended upon the area and began knocking on doors just a couple of hours before. Apparently, they had been asking people for donations in hopes that they could gain access to unlocked homes. It has been said that this is when people were pulled from their homes and forced to line the road. The next details are not for the faint of heart. Please read with extreme caution: Those who were forced into the street were tied to one another and gagged to stifle their screams and protests. There seemed to be a ‘leader’ who then began speaking with a booming voice. From some videos that were taken with witnesses’ Telegems, the words spoken were: “People of Simul, it should come as no surprise that peace is nothing but a broken promise. Us magical and non-human people will never forget the trials and torture we have had to endure over the years. To this day, we still suffer in silence, dealing with your negative opinions, views, and prejudice while you all claim we coexist. It is time for us to take this land back. This is not our end. Only yours.” From there, the victims were set alight with what could only be described as lightning and fire magic. We only know it was magic due to witness testimonies and video evidence. This situation has prompted Ferren, our stand-in leader of Simul, to release the following statement and judgment: “Citizens of Simul, As horrible as this sounds, we need to do something drastic in order to keep our kingdom safe. From the moment this statement is released, all non-human and/or magical beings, items, etc MUST BE PURGED FROM ELEUTHERIA. Henceforth until further notice, Eleutheria will become a “Human Only District”. Those of you who reside within the walls of the capitol that must be displaced, please make your way to the nearest post office or city entrance for a voucher to make your transition to a new city easier. All magic and non-humans must leave the city limits within the next 24 hours. All establishments that sell/manufacture/teach magic must be shut down. Library of Shit Updates Heading 2 Ferax Villum Messis 2, 10,017 Read more in BREAKING NEWS Laughter and merriment could be heard throughout the kingdom as the farmers were once again celebrating another good harvest. Food and drink flowed freely as the unsuspecting people of Simul were watched from the shadows. Hooded figures lurked just outside of anyone's sight, their eyes set on one target; the very food the farmers were celebrating . Not just what they had harvested already, but all of their fields. Every piece of wheat, bean, or ear of corn was doomed. The robed figures kept watch just waiting for the perfect moment to strike. They waited until almost everyone had gone to sleep. Those that remained in the fields or the barns were too drunk to notice anything. Even if they had been sober, they would not be able to stop what was about to happen. Once the robed figures felt it was time to move, they did . Flames roared to life around them to burn every last plant to cinders. Nothing was spared. Nothing. Anything and everything that stood in their way burned with the precious crops. Enough food for dozens of families turned to ash before anyone realized what was going on. The smell of smoke and the sound of roaring flames pulled everyone from their beds. Horror and panic hit everyone who witnessed it. Men, women and children all did what they could to put out the flames...though, their efforts were in vain. The heat from the fires evaporated the water before it could even reach the flames. Screams for water...screams for help. Many could even be heard calling out to the mages they had shunned. Asking... no, begging for help. Those that could have helped cowered behind their locked doors, fearful of what could happen if they rendered aide. Great numbers of magical and non-human beings fled from their homes as registrations became more common, alongside the growing racism against them, leaving the human communities more vulnerable than they had ever dreamed. This was not an isolated incident; farms across the kingdom were burned. Dry Gulch, SkyHaven, Subury, Wingston, Timberholde, Ferax Villum, and even Concordia were hit alongside multiple other villages and farming areas. It was almost the same story at every farm that was burning: Those that could have helped refused. A small few cities managed to save food. Their mages were quick to respond and quell as many of the fires as they could. However, even with their quick actions, much of their food was destroyed. What could be salvaged was inventoried and stored in the safest places people could find. Alongside the massive loss to the winter food supply, hundreds of people and livestock were also slain. The countless lives and resources that were lost in the night left all that witnessed the horrors of it choking on the smoke and ash of their dreams . What witnesses hoped was a sick nightmare was revealed to be anything but. The nightmare was real and no one knew what to do. Cries of sorrow and a strange letter filled the air. The letter was simply written on paper bearing the Guardian's seal; “We of the CONGREGATION will not be silent. If the King won't hear our cries, we will make him. We will starve him out if we have to, along with anyone else who would follow his laws.” The news of all the fires across the kingdom had the streets of Eleutheria humming with hectic whispers or outright blame against magic users. Conspiracy theories about what happened spread like wildfire; The letters from the “CONGREGATION”, and the Guardians had everyone terrified. They were all looking to Ferren for answers. No word came for hours, confirming for the people that what happened was far worse than before. Eventually, Ferren emerged from the castle to stand on the highest balcony of the capitol. His normally charismatic voice was filled with sadness as it echoed through the heart of Simul. Even his appearance suggested he had not slept. His clothes were a rumbled mess and his hair was far from tamed. Redness surrounded his eyes from intense crying. “It is with a heavy heart that I address you all in such a manner. I am sure you have all heard the news by now. Our kingdom…has suffered a tremendous loss. The crops that normally sustain us through the long winter have been destroyed. Burned to a crisp alongside the brave men and women who tried to stop the inferno. Their sacrifice ensured that everyone could gather and defeat our oldest of foes. The cause of the fires is still unknown but we believe it to be a series of horrible accidents. I would love nothing more than to believe that, but with witnesses coming forward, it has been apparent that the attacks were perpetrated by magic users. The best people we have are looking to find the cause of what caused this tragedy…” Ferren's voice cracked as more mist threatened to fall from his eyes, the acting king haphazardly wiped away the tears that never fell as he tried to compose himself. He kept his face hidden for a few minutes in silence before he moved his hands to speak again. “We can move on from this tragedy as one but I need the help of every Simulian. We do not have enough food for the winter. As of today, all food is to be brought here to Eleutheria so it can be rationed out appropriately. All are welcome to come and get your daily meals. Those of you traveling great distances will be allowed to get enough for a few days. Every month, we will be shipping out ration bundles to each city and community to sustain. All magical beings wanting their rations are required to provide their registrations. This is to keep us all safe and uphold peace of mind. We have also decided to place a special barrier around the capitol to help further protect the food we will all need to survive. It kills me to have to do this to you all. Rationing will leave us all hungry as we try our best to make it through these trying times. I encourage everyone to do what they can to provide for their families. If you have extra, please give it to those that need it more than you. Hunters, share your bounties as you get them. Farmers that have lost their crops should reach out to us. We can provide seed to hopefully grow something before the cold seasons hit. We will make it through and come out better for it. Library of Shit Updates Heading 2 Curet Insula Dissilio 5th, 10,1017 Taken from BREAKING NEWS : It is my displeasure to bring the most current news to Simul. As much as I would love to not have to relay this information, it is my duty to keep you all informed and as safe as I can. With that, I must weave together the details of last night’s horrors. Before the sun began to descend, something else fell upon our great kingdom. From what we can gather, the first attack was in Korrig. Despite the docks already having taken a major hit, it appears the assailants decided they needed to come back to finish the job. Unfortunately, the structures are a complete loss. Even worse, it has been reported that more than 20 people are still missing while the casualties are nearing the same number and injuries have topped 33. From what we can tell, the next attack was shortly thereafter in Timberholde. Every city entrance was reportedly blown apart and virtually sealing the city inside of itself. This also included grave damage to the newest addition, the train. The station and surrounding area have been destroyed beyond repair. Casualties have reached 67, more than 40 have been injured and another 17 are still missing. Another attack mere hours after came in the form of another explosion. This one took out the entirety of the bridge from the mainland to Curet Insula. No fatalities have been reported, but it has only been a few hours since receiving the news and searches are still in effect. I wish I could say that I have reported everything. I wish I could tell you great people that we can recover from this. I wish I had the magic words…something to give you all hope. Unfortunately, with this last piece of information I have to bear, I cannot fathom how we are to unite. At just past 8 last night, Eleutheria and our royal family was attacked. According to the guards and surviving staff, nothing was out of the ordinary until they heard Hilda scream and then what sounded like a man being tortured. This man is assumed to be King Alfred. Apparently, shortly after, a fire broke out, causing many of the people who also lived in the castle to flee with little to nothing to the second story of the city. Still, 13 are missing and feared dead. The royal family was never located, even after the fire was quelled. There was but a note left at the scene. This note had a confession and confessions to more crimes that were, unfortunately, confirmed this morning. The entire Fortescue bloodline has been murdered. Sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, grandfathers and grandmothers… all of the bloodline has been taken from Simul in the most horrid of ways. They are placed, from an eye on land, about a half foot (6 in/15.24 cm) from each other. Both moons, such close in proximity, to give the same status/stage in the night sky. The moon that sits more northern carries the name Fax while the southern moon wears the name Furvus. Send Strength Taking the shape of a battle axe, the constellation Strength is believed to be a manifestation of the word itself. Made up of 5 stars, it is often seen in the eastern sky. Send The Sea The clam in the sky is said to be a symbol of what the oceans surrounding Simul speak to the land. Offering food and peace and protection, just as the shell for the sensitive flesh within. Send AfterLife Stories claim that in the northern sky, you can make out the skull of a diety. It smiles, welcoming all souls who pass to join him, brightly illuminating the sky for those who have been left behind. Send Celestial Cor A creature only known to Simul, the Cor have made themselves a household vision. Even the night sky depicts their wings, promising unconditional love and bonds that cannot be broken. Send Blessed With 10 stars in total, the Blessed constellation takes the shape of a haunting yet inspiring smile among the night sky. It is said that a creator of life still smiles upon their creation every night as peace reigns throughout the land. Look to the south west to gaze on the beauty. Send Dark and Light 6 stars make up this beautiful infinity symbol, reminding those who find it of their beliefs in Salus and Malus. Darkness and Light. Good and evil. Necessary matchmaking in fate. South east is where it lays, brighter than most other constellations. Send Compassion It is said that Eros himself attempted to draw a heart into the sky. With his unsteady hands, it turned sideways and fell to the western sky. Still, those who gaze at the messy 5 star construct are filled with a sense of love. Send The Travel Somewhere south of the Tree lays The Travel constellation. The 12 star mass takes the shape of an unclosed circle, helping those that peer upon it to envision a continuous trek into the unknown. Send Knowledge Looking to the northeastern sky, one will find the constellation Knowledge. Resembling an open book, most like to peer among the 5 star cluster with wonder filled eyes. When the first magically inclined displayed their supernatural abilities, they were there. When the war commenced between good and evil brothers, they were there....waiting. Watching. Judging. Ferren had warned them. In his unquestioned long life, he has been their savior. Their God. Their leader and teacher. The one who convinces them that anything other than a human would perish in the "Coming of the End." Somewhere...shrouded in darkness. They call their home, Formido Peak. Besides the foreboding name, Formido Peak is an enigma. Though the people do not use magic, or so they claim, the mountains themselves seem to block all magical and supernatural abilities. Though anyone can enter, if they have any sort of magic, mental, or like abilities (Things normal humans cannot achieve), they will find themselves just as normal as the next. Library of Shit Town Updates Temples of Unity Temples of Unity Year 10,013 In the year 10,013, the month of Dissilio, something erupted. Quite literally. During the season of warming, there were more quakes. This time, much smaller on scale. However, strong enough to cause some damage. The Temples of Unity, the center of Timberholde, the northern outskirts of Oak Silva, directly above the entrance of Dun'Lorn, and the center of Tranquillum were all affected at the very same moment. In the middle of each quake, a split in the earth appeared. Almost like large craters, these holes were deep and....pulsated. Those who bore witness tell the tale of the trees. In less than an hour, the massive trees erupt from the craters created. Fully furred with leaves and tough bark. Those who heard the stories knew what had happened. The Tree had returned five-fold. The stories began to spread again. Of the time of the war between brothers. Between good and evil of the original Tree. Jayden had struck the tree down. The large and beautiful piece erupting into thousands of pieces. However, the story goes, that some innocent lives witnessed the attack and took it upon themselves to take the only salvageable pieces of the Tree and bury them across the land. What people did not know was that these were no stories nor myths nor rumors. It had happened. And now...the Tree had returned. After the bursting of the Tree of Life back into the land, many wondered if Simul would finally find peace again. Unfortunately for them, and thanks to a bad bedtime story, the great kingdom would not be so lucky. Everyone knew the moment the first woman appeared. Out of portals surrounding the island came demons and dragons alike. If that wasn't enough, another woman appeared and began to chant and use her own blood to write runes along the base of the Tree's barrier. If it were not for a group of random strangers coming to the aide of the island, The Tree of Life may have been destroyed right then and there. After a lengthy battle between protectors and aggressors, the Tree was saved, as well as lives. Still, the destruction was enough for King Alfred to ask the citizens of his great kingdom to send more aide and rebuild. My name is Lucius Scarletwound and I am here to bring you the news as often as necessary. Thanks for your continuous support! Today marks about three weeks since registrations for magics has begun and though Simul has been incredibly helpful in this endeavor, we want to remind everyone of what our goals are. Community: Under this law, all Simul citizens will abide by a new curfew. This law only stands in city limits. Until the perpetrators of the crimes against Simul have been found and punished, the curfew will stand between the hours of 9 PM and 6 AM. All citizens must be inside between these hours. All businesses inside of city limits must adjust their hours accordingly. All businesses will be compensated by the Royal Fund with proper documentation of loss of revenue. All requests must be sent to Ferren Drebek, Royal Quarters, Eleutheria. Safety: Until a new royal family can be assigned, Siphoning Mages have been increased in order to be disbursed throughout Simul. Every major city and landmark will now be equipped with roaming Siphoning Mages to patrol the area. This is for the safety of our people. Until the crime has been quelled, Siphoning Mages will make their homes among the people. If you would like to house a Mage, please contact the Royal Quarters in order to set a meeting and be qualified. Any and all who offer aid will be compensated for their time, room and board. Trust: Any and all magical technology and persons (Non-Humans or Magical Humans) must register their abilities and capabilities. Alongside the Siphoning Mages, groups of Treasurers will accompany them in order to survey the populace. This may seem a bit invasive, but this is for the safety of all. Those who have taken lives and caused suffrage have yet to be brought to justice. Until that time, for the peace of mind of every soul, we must be open about who we all are. Any persons or items found to not be registered will immediately be confiscated and/or jailed until proper paperwork is obtained. From the date of this article, all persons/items must be registered within the next 7 days. Persons registered will have a card designated to them which must be on their person at all times for identification purposes. You can register at your local post office or main city entrances. There will be temporary offices designated for this purpose. Vigilance: This is not a new law, but more a warning for citizens. If you see something or someone magical, please use caution. Do not treat your fellow man any differently, however! That is not what we are doing here. We just want people to be safe and secure. This is why Identification Cards will be provided. If someone magical refuses to identify themselves, or have proper paperwork for magical items, please contact your local authorities. It may just be that they did not see the announcements.
